My Take On Things

Tattoo or Taboo?

Some people love tattoos and some people hate them. Are they wrong? Or are some people too ignorant to respect others choices. Many people get tattoos, but as you can see, the statistics may vary:

Thirty-six percent of those ages 18 to 25, and 40 percent of those ages 26 to 40, have at least one tattoo, according to a fall 2006 survey bythe Pew Research Center. (see pdf of tattoo poll numbers)

The National Geographic News stated in April 2000 that 15% of Americans were tattooed (or approximately 40 million people!)

Esquire Magazine estimated in March 2002 that 1 in 8 Americans was tattooed.

Harris Poll, 2003, estimates that fully 36% of those aged 25-29 have one or more tattoos.

In my personal experience, tattoos are genrally liked or admired by many. They are great ice breakers and conversation starters. They show individuality, heart, and a high tolerance for pain.

Problems with Tattoos

Some tattoos are easier to hide than others. Does that mean someone with a visible tattoo should be treated differently? The workplace is not too kind to those with tattoos and so many employees are forced to hide them. This issue tends to be very controversial and can be easily debated.
Articles like thesehttp://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,223178,00.html  go back and forth on the issue.
This new generation of people are defining themeselves and expressing themeselves in the forms of personal appearance. As more and more of the population becomes "infected" with the desire to attain a tattoo or create some sort of modification to themselves, employers will be forced to be more leniant and start allowing such things in the workplace.
